Welcome back! If you’re reading this, thank you for rocking with me on this amazing journey. Your support means more than you know. ❤️ 🙏🏾

Can you believe it’s already been two years? Two. Whole. Years.😲. I’m still amazed—and honestly, a little shocked, especially since I never expected to enjoy writing this much.

Truth be told, blogging takes time, resilience, and guts. It’s a decision that, as I said in my very first post, should be taken seriously. And, in true throwback fashion, here’s younger me: “Not this writing thing again!” 😩

But here’s the plot twist—this “writing thing” has become a space of expression, encouragement, excitement, and growth. For others and for me. Look at me being all poetic! LOL. And as the young people say, “We listen, and we don’t judge”.

In this post, I’m looking back at the highs, the lows, and everything in between from two years of blogging—and revisiting some earlier tips to show how my perspective has grown and evolved.

1. Find Your Niche

At first, I thought finding a niche meant picking one clear-cut topic and sticking to it forever. Back then, I focused on what I was most passionate about at the time. But over two years, I’ve learned that your niche isn’t set in stone. It’s okay—actually, it’s encouraged—to evolve and expand as you grow. One passion often leads to another. It’s kind of like how one Netflix binge turns into a whole new season, and suddenly you’re sitting on your couch wondering, “Well, that escalated quickly.”  LOL.

For me, blogging became a journey of discovery and allowing my voice to develop naturally. That flexibility kept me inspired and helped me connect with a wider audience. So, if you’re starting out, remember: your niche can and should grow with you.

2. Own Your Writing Style

I used to believe my writing had to be polished and perfect—like something straight out of a textbook. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. The best way to connect with readers is to write like you—not someone else.

Your writing style should be your own voice, quirks and all. Treat your posts like a conversation with a friend. Don’t be afraid to sprinkle in humor, personality, or even a little attitude if that’s who you are. That’s what makes your blog unique and relatable. Because HELLO, my posts basically sound like real-time chats. HAHA!!

For me, adding humor and being genuine helped me break down walls—not just with my readers, but with myself, too. So, if you’re worried about sounding “professional” or “just right,” relax. Or, as my coworker says, “Dolly, you’re unprofessional.”  I’m still not sure if that was an actual compliment. 🤨 LOL. Be authentic. Own your story and be genuinely YOU.

3. Be Consistent(ish) —Consistent-like

I used to pressure myself thinking I had to crank out two posts a month to be “effective.” Spoiler alert  # 2: life happens. And sometimes, despite your best intentions, you miss a post—or a few. And that’s okay. What matters more than perfect consistency is staying true to why you started. Whether I posted weekly, monthly, or sporadically in between, I kept showing up. Not out of obligation, but out of purpose.

Consistency looks different for everyone. For me, it meant not giving up. It meant writing through the slumps, celebrating the small wins, and trusting that what I was sharing was valuable—even if it didn’t follow a strict schedule. Being “consistent-like” taught me to focus less on a rigid schedule and more on building a rhythm that works for my life. Keep going at your own pace. You’re building something meaningful, even if it’s not always on a calendar.

4.  Don’t Worry About the Numbers

I’m telling all my business! Yikes!! Early on, I checked my Instagram and blog stats like they were winning Powerball tickets. Those numbers will have you doubting EVERYTHING. Metrics can be helpful, but they’re not the most important thing. Don’t base your value on follower counts—numbers don’t tell the full story or your real impact. What matters is quality, purpose-driven content.

Two years in, I’ve learned your worth isn’t in analytics. Some of my best posts didn’t “perform well,” but they reached the right people—and that’s what counts. And if you’re still staring at stats during lunch … please, STOP! LOL. Trust yourself and trust the process.

5. Stay Motivated by Celebrating the Small Wins

In my humble, honest opinion … LOL—staying motivated as a blogger isn’t always easy. Some days, the ideas flow like a babbling brook. Other days? I’m on Duolingo learning Spanish and wondering how I even got here. (*Dolly looks around*🫣)

But here’s what I’ve learned: the key to staying motivated is celebrating the small wins.Wrote a sentence? Win. Finished a post? Bigger win. Ignored the naysayers and dream killers? Biggest win of all. Those little victories add up. They remind you that progress is still progress—even if it’s slow, messy, sideways or comes with a side of self-doubt. So big up yourself. You’re doing the thing — whether you realize it or not.

Final Thoughts

Blogging is more than just writing—it’s about finding your voice, growing through challenges, and sharing what matters. Whether you’re building a brand or simply trying something new, blogging can take you to some unexpected, beautiful places.

So, find your niche, be authentic, focus on quality, celebrate the small wins, and keep going—even when it’s tough. If a “reluctant writer” like me can do it, so can you. Until the next time, keep shining, creating, and chasing your passion. ❤️

And hey—if this post spoke to you and you'd like to support my journey, I’d be so grateful. Every little bit helps keep the stories flowing and the coffee brewing. ☕
