Dear Traveler, It's Okay to Rest

Hey travel family. 👋
Just popping in with a quick check-in because I know life has been life-ing for us all. Not to mention these record-high summer temps that have me hiding inside my home despite my best efforts of going somewhere. HA!
This slower season wasn't exactly in my plans, but maybe that's what makes it worth talking about. The space between our adventures has something to teach us, too.
There's something exciting about having a trip on the calendar. The countdown begins, the travel plans take shape, and suddenly you're dreaming about the places you'll explore and the memories you'll make.
Not to mention the idea of being a little less responsible, sleeping more, and eating like a middle-schooler who's been left unsupervised in a candy store. I mean...vacation calories don’t count, do they? 😉

But what happens when there isn't a trip to plan?
No boarding passes. No hotel reservations. No double-checking a packing list. No suitcase looking at me looking at it. HA!
Just stillness.
In my defense, I may have done an extensive review of my work schedule to see if I could squeeze in a short trip. Don’t judge me!! LOL. But if I’m being candid, this stillness feels strange.

We live in a world that celebrates constant movement. Somewhere along the way, we've convinced ourselves that if we're not going somewhere, we're standing still. But maybe the problem isn’t stillness—maybe the problem is that we've forgotten how to be present when we're not moving.
The truth is travelers need rest, too. Rest isn't a pause on life—it's part of the journey.
Travel has taught me many things: to embrace the unexpected, appreciate different perspectives, and find beauty in places I never imagined visiting. But, ironically, some of life's greatest lessons weren't learned thousands of miles from home. They were learned in the quiet moments between adventures.
I've learned that gratitude doesn't require a passport stamp. Wonder doesn't always require a scenic view. And joy doesn't have to wait until the next vacation. Sometimes the waiting seasons are where God does some of His deepest work in us—found in slow mornings, meaningful conversations, and discovering that home can be beautiful, too.

Watering plants and enjoying the patio
There can be pressure—especially in today's world—to always have something exciting to share. Another destination. Another itinerary. Another adventure. But life isn't meant to be lived at full speed all the time.
Even nature has its seasons. There are seasons of blooming and seasons of resting. Both are necessary. Maybe this slower season is also an invitation to try something new. Speaking of which, I have randomly decided I want to go fishing. 😂 I know absolutely nothing about it, but don't be surprised if you see me out there with a Fisher-Price "My First Fishing Pole" trying to figure it out.

Who knows? Maybe the next adventure doesn't require a plane ticket. Maybe it just requires a little curiosity and a willingness to try something different.
And maybe that's what rest gives us—the space to reflect on where we've been and prepare for where we're going.
And while you’re there…DO THE THING!! 💃🏽(You know, the thing you’ve been saying you’ll do “one day.”)
Read the book that's been sitting on your nightstand. Explore a local coffee shop you've never visited. Watch the sunset from your backyard. Take a walk without needing to document every moment. Spend time with the people who make wherever you are feel like home.
Because adventure doesn't always have to be far away. Sometimes it's waiting for us in the ordinary moments we've been too busy to notice.

Travel isn't going anywhere. And neither are your dreams. The next trip will come when it's time. The places on your bucket list will still be waiting when the time is right. Until then, don't rush through the season you're in trying to get to the next one. There's beauty here, too.
So Dear Traveler, this is your reminder that it's okay to rest.
You don't have to earn it. You don't have to justify it. And you certainly don't have to feel guilty for it.
Take the slow mornings. Enjoy the quiet moments. Try the random hobbies—even buy the questionable beginner fishing gear if you must. 😂
Let the suitcase look👀 at you looking at it. HA. The passport will get stamped again. The next adventure will find you.
But sometimes the most important journey isn't the one that takes us somewhere new—it's the one that teaches us to be fully present right where we are.
And that journey is worth embracing, too.

If you’ve been rocking with me and these stories made you smile, laugh, or reflect a little, feel free to drop a few “coffee coins” my way ☕✨ and help keep the journeys (and the coffee 😏) going.
